We all know the importance of a good resume. (It’s a must-have for JobsCentral Graduate Virtual Career Fair 2021!)

But what makes a resume good? While including the necessary information is a must-do, it’s also vital to have a clear, easy-to-read document.

While maintaining a basic resume template is important when applying to jobs, we recommend creating industry-specific resumes to appeal to the managers and human resource representatives who are reading them. Tweak your resume with small things like the placement of bullet points, or download one of the templates below and get to writing!

  1. Software Engineer Resume Template

For a software engineer or related role, it is advisable to list your qualifications (such as a Degree in Computer Science) and skills (such as your experience in certain programming languages) at the top. This is because most companies look for these skillsets before anything else, and they are a must-have for tech jobs.

  1. Customer Service Resume Template

Customer service representatives are the frontline of a company, and much care is taken in their hiring. To convince HR that you’re the right person for the job, it’s advisable to quantify your customer service experience when noting it, and list down the software you’ve used (e.g., Zendesk, Helpshift). Emphasise your soft skills as well – were you able to bring up customer feedback to upper management, or did satisfied customers leave “thank you” notes? Be sure to mention such things.

  1. Marketing Manager Resume Template

A marketing manager is in charge of directing overall marketing efforts. Being able to generate interest in a product or service is a key skill for this role. Highlight your achievements in this regard through quantifiable statements, and be sure to highlight your communication skills as well.

As a successful marketing manager has a varied skillset and portfolio, there is no need to omit any past successes or employment. A good idea is to frame any previous achievements in a way that is relevant to the job posting. For example, a tenure as a barista may showcase your ability to push sales and drive up membership sign-up rates.

  1. Project Manager Resume Template

The world needs lots of project managers. Project managers spearhead projects and use the right technology to plan, budget, lead, and report. Beyond that wide scope, however, it is important to state up-front in your resume what sector your previous work was in. (After all, an IT Project Manager and a Business Development Project Manager will have very different skillsets.)
